This article is about the Orlando, Florida personal injury attorney. For his law firm, see Michael T. Gibson, P.A. For other people named Michael Gibson, see Not to be confused with.

Michael T. Gibson is an American personal injury attorney based in Orlando, Florida, and the founder, president and lead attorney of Michael T. Gibson, P.A., a plaintiffs' personal injury law firm that operates under the brand name Auto Justice Attorney.[2][3] He was admitted to The Florida Bar on 22 September 2006 (Bar No. 26105).[1] He represents people injured in car, truck and motorcycle accidents and in catastrophic injury, wrongful death, nursing home negligence and auto insurance cases; his firm states that it never represents insurance companies, corporations or hospitals.[2]

Born and raised in Clearwater, Florida, Gibson studied at the University of Central Florida and earned his Juris Doctor from the Florida A&M University College of Law in 2006.[4] He has written and testified on Florida's personal injury protection (PIP) auto insurance system, including testimony before the Florida House of Representatives Health and Human Services Committee in 2011 and a 2012 op-ed arguing that the state's PIP reform would fail.[7][10] He holds the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rating and is listed in the 2027 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs.[11][12]

Early life and education [edit]

Gibson was born and raised in Clearwater, Florida, and graduated from Clearwater Central Catholic High School.[4] His date of birth has not been published.

On 14 December 2000 his mother was struck head-on by an elderly driver. The crash left her with permanent nerve damage and reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD). A personal injury attorney took her contested uninsured motorist claim to the courthouse steps and won it for the family.[2] After the crash his grandmother moved into a nursing home, where she fell in late 2001 and died after a rapid decline.[2] Gibson has said these events led him to become a lawyer for injured people.[2] According to his firm, he left college for a time to help his mother with her bills and worked at a personal injury firm before law school, putting himself through college and law school.[3][2]

He moved to Central Florida to attend the University of Central Florida, where his Lawful résumé lists a bachelor's degree in liberal studies completed in 2003.[4][6] He then attended the Florida A&M University College of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor in 2006 and graduating in the top 3% of his class.[2] In law school he served on the Law Review, as head teaching assistant for the Academic Skills Program, and as president of the school's American Association for Justice chapter. He also worked as a county court mediator and as a certified legal intern with the Orange County Public Defender's Office, where he tried felony jury trials.[4][5]

Career [edit]

Early career

Gibson began his legal career as an associate at Martinez, Manglardi, Diez-Arguelles & Tejedor, which he describes as one of Central Florida's largest personal injury firms.[5] According to his Super Lawyers biography, he "participated in over fifteen (15) jury trials, trying seven (7) cases to verdict himself" during that period.[4] His Attorney at Law Magazine profile reports that days after his 2006 bar admission he tried a nursing home negligence case to a $4 million verdict for an 87-year-old client.[7]

Gibson/Simon, LLC

Gibson was a founding partner and the head personal injury attorney of Gibson/Simon, LLC, an Orlando law firm. His Lawful résumé dates the partnership to 2009–2010.[5][6]

Michael T. Gibson, P.A.

Gibson then founded Michael T. Gibson, P.A., which operates as Auto Justice Attorney. The Better Business Bureau lists the firm's business start date as 20 April 2009, and his LinkedIn profile dates the role from April 2009; his Lawful résumé gives 2010.[8][6] He serves as its president and lead attorney, and The Florida Bar lists him as managing partner.[1][2] The firm's office is at 2420 S. Lakemont Avenue, Suite 150, in Orlando's Baldwin Park neighborhood; earlier listings give an address at 839 N. Magnolia Avenue.[1][8]

The firm handles car, rideshare, motorcycle, truck, pedestrian, bicycle, bus and aviation accidents; catastrophic, brain, spinal cord, burn and child injuries; wrongful death; slip and fall; property damage; and nursing home cases, along with auto insurance and PIP disputes.[3] It serves clients in English and Spanish, offers free consultations, and works on a contingency fee basis.[3] The firm's website and Gibson's Attorney at Law Magazine profile state "$200M+ Recovered over 17 Years", and the profile lists a $3.2 million trucking wrongful death recovery; these figures are reported by the firm.[3][7] The firm describes itself as a team of more than 30 legal professionals; a December 2024 case study put its size at four attorneys and 22 staff.[2][13]

In 2024 the cybersecurity company GuidePoint Security published a customer case study on the firm's recovery from a ransomware attack, quoting Gibson.[13]

Bar admissions and standing

The Florida Bar admitted Gibson on 22 September 2006 under Bar No. 26105. The Bar lists him as a member in good standing, eligible to practice law in Florida, with no disciplinary history in the past ten years; his county and judicial circuit are Orange County and the Ninth Circuit.[1] He is also admitted before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.[5]

PIP advocacy [edit]

Much of Gibson's public work concerns Florida's no-fault personal injury protection system. In 2011 he testified before the Florida House of Representatives Health and Human Services Committee on PIP and auto insurance, and the same year he spoke at a PIP legislative update event.[7][5]

On 20 November 2012 he published an op-ed, "The new PIP reform will fail", in the Orange Observer, arguing against the PIP reform the Florida Legislature had passed earlier that year.[10] In 2013 he wrote a series of columns for West Orlando News on auto insurance costs and the new PIP law, including one on the court injunction against parts of the law, and gave talks on the 2013 PIP changes (see Speaking).[5]
